Kia Sorento becomes the "king of sales" in the home market

Kia Sorento recorded impressive sales in 2024, thereby surpassing the same model of the group, Hyundai Santa Fe. According to Korean Car Blog, Kia Sorento is the best-selling model in the Korean market in 2024 with sales of 94,538 units. Sorento's competitor, Hyundai Santa Fe, is only in 3rd place with 77,161 vehicles delivered for the whole year of 2024. The 2nd place also belongs to another Kia model, the Carnival with 82,748 units delivered to users in Korea in 2024. The competition between these two models became hotter in August 2023 when both brands introduced new versions, in which the Sorento is the upgraded version and the Santa Fe is the new generation. Sorento's dominance in the sales rankings is a significant achievement for Kia, especially since the brand was acquired by Hyundai Corporation in 1999. Over the past two decades, Hyundai sedans such as the Sonata, Avante and Grandeur, as well as the Porter commercial vehicle, have dominated the best-selling list in South Korea. The Sorento's victory signals a shift in consumer preferences and marks the first time an SUV has won the title of best-selling car of the year.

The Sorento is considered an ideal model for families, with a modern sporty design and a spacious, fully equipped interior. Another important factor driving the sales growth of the Sorento is the addition of a hybrid version. Hybrid versions accounted for about 65% of total sales of this CUV model last year, reflecting consumers' growing interest in fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles.
